T taps are available in two formats, reusable t taps, often found on leg bags where the bag is designed to be emptied multiple times. Or single-use t taps, often found on single-use night drainage bags, where the t tap mechanism will lock after being opened, preventing it from being closed again.

Clamp taps are the simplest drainage bag tap option. They work by clamping the outlet tube to prevent fluid from exiting the bag. The simple design is reliable and discreet, but may not be suitable for those with limited dexterity as they often require more force to be opened and closed. They are often only found on leg bags.

Bung caps are only found on Coloplast Conveen Active Leg Bags. They're used on these leg bags to provide a lightweight drainage option which doesn't compromise the low profile nature of the bags.

The average bladder can generally hold 400-600ml of urine, so medium capacity leg bags are suitable for most people. Medium sized leg bags can still offer some of the discreet advantages of smaller bags, whilst also providing the capacity for less frequent trips to the toilet to empty it.

When you’re at home and discretion is less important, large capacity leg bags may be a good option. They can sometimes hold up to two times the volume of the average bladder, meaning less trips to the toilet to empty your bag. It’s worth noting with the extra capacity these leg bags can get quite heavy, so you must make sure you are using the correct fixation devices for supporting the bag.

Short tubes range from 5cm to 10cm depending on the leg bag manufacturer, and long tube leg bags are often around 25cm. Generally short tube leg bags would sit on the thigh, keeping the inlet tubing relatively straight to avoid kinking. Long tube leg bags my be better choice for those who prefer to wear their leg bag lower down the leg (like on the calf), or require more tubing for a comfortable fit.

Some manufacturers now offer adjustable tubing options. This is where the bag, inlet tubing and universal stepped connector can all be disconnected, allowing you to cut the inlet tubing to the desired size before re-attaching the connector and bag. This could be a good option if you’re in between standard sizing.
